Teak at Sykes Timber.
Wednesday the 2nd of February 2023 saw Sykes Timber cutting more Costa Rican Teak. To an unschooled eye, the owner & sawyer may tumble into an immediate panic. Colour first resembles a concoction of black, grey, green, yellow, and blue. As far away as you can get from the golden brown many Teak applicators desire.
To be scientific, the colours our sawyer is fretting over are simply the timbers inherent oils reacting to exposure. This is through no fault of anyone, at any stage in the process. It’s purely a natural reaction in a natural material.
‘He that can have patience can have what he will’ rings true in the world of Teak. Just as British holiday makers deem luxuriating in scorching sun to be aesthetically beneficial for them, Teak wood does also. Oxidation will cause the Teak to mellow slightly, but only sunlight can aid us in achieving our craved golden brown colouring, this process normally takes just a few weeks.
“How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, a little more patience would have achieved success.” Elbert Hubbard.
